Zhuhai is chinese for “Cheap AND Nasty”. At least that’s the impression you get when you’re in Macau. Zhuhai is a “Special Economic Zone” and is on the Chinese border. It takes about 10 minutes to get there, by taxi from Macau, and about an hour to make it thorugh the two sets of immigration. Macau, formerly held by the Portugese, is a SAR (Special Administrative Region) like Hong Kong. It was handed back in 1999 and then was handed to the International Gaming community a few years ago. It now has revenues higher than Las Vegas so it’s probably more fitting to call Vegas the “American Macau” than vice versa. So having a couple of days to kill I thought I’d see what was on offer at the theatre. Jackpot! Avenue Q is showing in London, having been taken overseas for the first time. Hill-bloody-arious! I knew of AvenueQ as a result of a amateur video in which world of warcraft characters emoted to the words of the song “The Internet is for Porn”. I’ll put a description of Avenue Q in a different category but if you get the chance, go see it. I’ve had haggis for three meals in a row now and I’m yet to get it nicely wrapped in a bit of silky smooth stomach. Edinburgh castle was quite impressive, and watching the One O’Clock Gun being fired was quite fun too. I think it’s a male thing to enjoy loud explosions and just destruction in general. Today is practically summer in Edinburgh with a balmy top of 11 degrees, I was almost tempted to step out in shorts. I was brought back down to earth by a friend in Melbourne mentioning that you have 31 degrees. *sigh*.
